Why Confidence and Self-Love Feel So Hard

Your difficulty to love yourself and feel good about yourself… It’s not your fault.

From the moment you’re born, your subconscious begins wiring beliefs about your worth as a person and how you fit into the world. The young mind internalizes everything. Everything is about you or because of you.

If your mom was critical or angry, or if dad was neglectful or absent, it wasn’t your fault. Of course, your adult mind knows that now, but your mind as a child did not. And now your inner child (in your adult body), who lives in your subconscious, still thinks it’s their fault.

This is the source of the common human condition:

“Something is wrong with me.”

Woman deep in thought with hand near her mouth, symbolizing emotional overwhelm, self-doubt, or the quiet inner struggle of low self-worth.

Most people were never taught how to create self-esteem that comes from within, because most parents don’t know how to do that for themselves. So we grow up with this subconscious deficit of self-worth (that was not our fault) and without any guidance on how to love ourselves.

Woman smiling at her reflection, which shows her as a joyful child—symbolizing inner child healing, self-recognition, and reconnecting with the parts of yourself that were once hidden or hurt.

To cope, we developed patterns that helped us survive:

  • People-pleasing

  • Chasing external validation

  • Avoiding conflict or standing up for ourselves

  • Staying small to avoid disappointment

  • Overachieving

  • Being overly responsible for others

But even with success, affirmation, or love from others—it’s never enough. Why?

Because there’s a leak in our self-worth container.

Inner child healing gently goes to the source of the leak, helping you reparent the parts of yourself that felt unseen, unworthy, or not enough.

Instead of chasing confidence on the outside, you begin building it from the inside out.

Rachel Hope, emotional healing practitioner offering online Inner Child Healing sessions

I’m Rachel Hope, and since 2017, I’ve helped hundreds of clients reconnect with the hurt parts inside, the inner child wounds that quietly erode how we see ourselves. Through this work, my clients begin to heal deep emotional patterns, build lasting self-worth, and finally feel free to stop people-pleasing, self-sabotaging, or questioning their value.

My approach is gentle, intuitive, and designed to support lasting transformation (not just insight) by going to the specific subconscious roots of limiting patterns.

Why This Healing Approach Is Life-Changing

Soft fabric resting on textured sand, symbolizing uncovering hidden parts of yourself and feeling safe to be fully seen.

Reconnect with the Real You

As kids, we often hide parts of ourselves to feel safe or accepted. Reparenting your inner child helps you feel safe being fully yourself, without needing to perform, please, or pretend.

Waves meeting the shore, symbolizing emotional release and healing old pain with gentleness and flow.

Freedom From Old Pain

That harsh inner voice is often a younger part of you trying to keep you safe by keeping you small, quiet, or in line. When that part receives the love and guidance it needs, it no longer feels the need to "protect" you in that way.

Natural healing crystals layered together, symbolizing emotional security, self-support, and inner strength.

Become Your Own Safe Place

You’ll learn how to reassure and support yourself when triggers arise beyond our sessions, so you feel more grounded, confident, and emotionally secure no matter what life throws at you.

What a Session Is Like

Sessions take place over Zoom, or by phone if you prefer. They’re 90 minutes long, though I leave space for up to two hours so we can always end with everyone feeling good: you and your inner child.

This is deep inner child work that helps heal childhood trauma without retraumatizing you. Unlike talk therapy, which works mostly with the conscious mind, this approach gently guides you into the subconscious, where the roots of self-love and self-worth are stored.

Most of the session is spent connecting directly with your inner child, rather than talking about what happened. The inner child rarely brings up graphic details and instead shares things like, “Mom doesn’t like me” or “Dad is angry all the time. What did I do?” These general beliefs often hold the deepest pain.

Many of the self-sabotaging behaviors we experience as adults began as coping strategies from a hurt inner child who was simply trying to stay safe, not hurt you. I help you bring compassion and healing to those wounded places so you can begin to feel good about yourself, naturally and unconditionally, by building lasting self-esteem, confidence, and self-love.

Together, we create a personalized plan for how to continue nurturing this relationship with your inner child after the session ends. You’ll leave with simple tools to comfort and support this very real part of you, so you feel more empowered to handle whatever life brings.

After your session, I send a detailed follow-up email with insights, guidance, and personalized suggestions. I’m also happy to record the session if you’d like a copy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don’t remember much from my childhood?

That’s completely okay. Many clients don’t have clear memories. You don’t need to force or figure anything out—just come with an open heart. Your subconscious knows what you're ready to heal and will bring it forward in the perfect way. You might hear an inner voice, sense the presence of your inner child, or even see images or memories you haven’t thought about in years.

Will I have to talk about painful or traumatic memories?

This work is really gentle and doesn’t require you to relive trauma. Most of the time, your inner child brings up feelings or beliefs like “I’m not good enough” or “I’m all alone,” rather than specific traumatic details. And if something painful does come up, it’s usually because that younger part of you has been stuck there, carrying it alone for a long time and needs your help. You’re not that helpless child anymore. You’re showing up now with your adult self, who’s much more equipped and supported. You’ll also have me there to gently guide you through it. Together, we help your inner child come out of that old moment and into the present, where safety and healing are finally possible.

How is this different from talk therapy?

Talk therapy works mainly with the conscious mind. It can be helpful for insights and learning coping tools, but it usually doesn’t get to the root of the issue. When emotions come up, it’s your subconscious wounds that are being activated, so that’s where the healing needs to happen. We start with a short heart-brain coherence meditation to help strengthen the connection with your subconscious where the inner child lives. This way we can access the subconscious roots of self-worth, confidence, and limiting patterns that keep repeating. Most of the session is spent actually dialoguing with your inner child, not just talking about what happened. You are the one who is reparenting yourself, talking directly to your inner child. I simply model compassionate words and offer guidance in a flow that helps them to feel seen, acknowledged, loved and supported.

What if something comes up I don’t want to look at or might not be true?  How do I know I am not making it up?

If something big comes up such as a repressed memory of abuse, it will usually come with felt body sensations that you’re unlikely to just create. The body always remembers, even if the mind blocks things from conscious awareness. At the same time, I recommend letting go of being a reporter looking for the facts. Whatever your inner child brings up, it’s important to meet them with compassion, love, and acceptance and not worry so much if it’s 100% accurate. Memories and childhood interpretations of events can be fluid. And I’d like to add, your inner child is so intimately connected to you. They are you. For some people, this presence feels almost indistinguishable from their adult self, and for others, it feels like a distinct younger version of them. However it shows up for you is perfect. Trust that your subconscious is showing you what’s ready to be healed.

Will one session be enough?

Even one session can create a powerful shift for the specific intention or issue we focus on. And because people are layered and complex, we usually have multiple roots behind self-worth challenges, which is why ongoing support can be so helpful. That said, I always aim to empower you, even in a single session, so you leave with new tools and ways to connect with yourself that continue to support you far beyond our time together.

You deserve a relationship with yourself that feels safe, solid, and full of love.

About Rachel Hope

I’ve been devoted to mind-body healing for over 20 years, beginning with my master’s degree in holistic nutrition. Since then, I’ve completed over 500 hours of training in energy and bodywork, a one-year counseling certification, and countless hours supporting others on their emotional healing journeys through workshops and one-on-one sessions.

My own path deepened in 2012 after a trip to Peru, where sacred plant medicine ceremonies began revealing repressed childhood trauma I had no memory of. That experience opened the door to deep inner child healing—work that changed everything for me. I now understood why it had been so hard for me to value myself and speak up. Within two weeks of starting my own inner child healing journey, I developed a new mama bear energy within myself that allowed me to start setting boundaries and standing up for myself. I just knew I had to bring this life-changing work to others, and I started with workshops.

Today, I guide others through this gentle but powerful process to help them reconnect with their inner child, rebuild self-worth, and create a relationship with themselves that feels safe, loving, and whole.
