Inner Child Healing:
Transforming Your Subconscious for Lasting Change

Understanding Subconscious Programs:
Our Internal Operating System

Inner child healing offers direct access to your subconscious mind—the internal operating system that governs approximately 95% of your thoughts, feelings, and decisions.

During the formative years, especially up to age 7, experiences are directly imprinted into the subconscious. This period is crucial, as the subconscious remains highly receptive to programming until around age 16, meaning much of our lifelong internal operating system is established before we even graduate high school.

Research indicates that at least 90% of families exhibit some form of dysfunction. Dr. Bruce Lipton estimates that about 60% of an average person's subconscious programming from childhood is negative and limiting. For those from particularly negative family environments, this percentage can be even higher.

When a child experiences neglect, abuse, or mistreatment, their developing subconscious mind often internalizes these events, leading to self-directed beliefs such as:

  • "There must be something wrong with me since Mom is so angry at me all the time."

  • "I am a bad kid. This is why Dad does not pay attention to me."

  • "I don’t deserve to be treated well. This is why Mom is so mean."

These limiting beliefs operate in the background, prompting the child to develop coping mechanisms to avoid pain or seek the love and attention they need. They might become people pleasers, withdraw to avoid notice, assume excessive responsibility for adults, or exhibit anger and rebellion. While these strategies are survival-based, they often persist into adulthood, hindering our ability to thrive. Inner child healing creates a portal to connect with the aspects of yourself that are at the core of adult challenges.

If you've explored self-help books, workshops, and traditional therapy to heal childhood trauma and limiting beliefs, yet continue to face the same struggles, it may be because these approaches primarily engage the conscious mind, which governs only about 5% of our lives. When emotional triggers arise, we tend to revert to our subconscious beliefs and programs. Inner child healing allows us to address the root of our challenges, rather than merely managing symptoms.

Childhood Trauma in Adults

Unresolved childhood trauma, wounds, and neglect can erode our sense of self and safety in the world. This foundational instability can manifest in various adult issues, particularly in relationships, personal goals, and chronic emotional states such as anxiety and depression. An early perception of the world as unsafe can lead to a sensitive or hypervigilant nervous system, complicating emotional regulation.

  Common struggles may include:

  • Confidence

  • Motivation

  • Healthy, balanced relationships

  • Maintaining self-care

  • Prioritizing oneself

  • Managing stress

  • Weight issues

  • Illness

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Aches and pains

  • Responding versus reacting to triggers

  • Not taking things personally

  • Enforcing healthy boundaries

  • Financial stability

  • Addictions of all kinds

  • Asking for one's needs and wants

  • Knowing what one needs or wants

  • Being true to oneself rather than conforming to others' expectations

  • Saying no

  • Not feeling responsible for others’ feelings

  • Loving oneself regardless of internal or external circumstances

Achieving Lasting Change

You possess the power to heal yourself. Inner child healing enables access to your internal operating system, where 95% of your thoughts, feelings, and decisions originate. All of your inner children reside in the subconscious. When you intend to connect with your inner child, they will show up.  They have been alone with their pain for decades, and they will not want to miss their chance to be acknowledged. They may be hidden or shy, but they will emerge. We always proceed at their pace.

Traditional talk therapy is valuable for enhancing self-awareness, identifying recurring patterns, and developing coping strategies, particularly concerning adult traumas like accidents. However, its effectiveness may be limited when addressing developmental or childhood trauma, as it primarily engages the conscious mind, which governs about 5% of our cognitive processes and is centered around logic and reasoning. Childhood trauma is deeply ingrained in the subconscious mind.

With inner child work, you may begin to notice shifts in your self-esteem, relationships, and ability to express yourself sooner than you might expect—potentially within days, weeks, or months, rather than years.  Want to explore the unique benefits of inner child healing? Inner Child Healing Sessions

Sessions are typically 90 to 120 minutes long and conducted via Zoom or phone, based on your preference.  An individual session is US $150, and package plans are available.  It's advisable to schedule some integration time afterward before resuming daily responsibilities. I always make sure we conclude on a positive and empowering note.

What to Expect During a Session

  • Gentle and Non-Re-Traumatizing Approach: We connect with parts of you holding the roots of adult issues without re-traumatizing. Your inner child may express feelings like "I am all alone" or "Mom cries all the time," rather than diving into great detail about traumatic events. As trust builds, they may share more as they feel safe.

  • Meeting Your Inner Child: You will meet a very real part of you.  Inner child healing is not just a “technique”; it is access to more of you.  They will show up as they are (as you were):  shy, angry, sad, confused, scared.  Every now and then a very happy well adjusted inner child will show up as a representative of who you were before a tragic event caused her to go into hiding.

  • Tailored to Your Goals and Your Inner Child: We have an intention for the session based on your healing goals, but we always meet your inner child with where they are at.  Sometimes the session shifts entirely in order to best show up for the inner child who comes through.

  • Empowering Self-Led Healing: I guide you in building a relationship with your inner child, facilitating contact, tracking their needs, and suggesting ways to express compassion, validation, and empowerment. The words and actions come from you, fostering a personal and authentic healing experience.

Techniques and Tools Used in Sessions

Depending on your inner child's needs, we may integrate:

  • Heart-Brain coherence to become more receptive to new beliefs.

  • Nervous system support for grounding and safety.

  • Supportive language and visualization exercises.

  • Creating new outcomes to replace limiting beliefs.

  • Energy clearing techniques to release stored emotional pain.

My time working with Rachel Hope was a phenomenal experience. Rachel’s intuitive and perceptive nature made it easy to feel grounded and safe. This helps the healing process begin.  I was surprised and so happy with my experience as well grateful for the results.

I was able to calm and soothe my inner child in a way that helps me feel more confident and less weighed down by inner energies. I continue to work with my inner child to heal. She helped open up a door of communication that helps me feel supported and validated."

Q: What if I can't connect with my inner child?

Connecting with your inner child is a deeply personal experience that varies from person to person. Some individuals find the connection immediate and profound, while others may require more time to feel safe and open up. It's important to approach this process with patience and compassion, allowing your inner child to emerge at their own pace.  You can also make a meaningful connection even if visualization is a difficult skill for you.

During sessions, clients often report a "tangible" connection with their inner child. This can manifest in various ways, such as recalling long-forgotten memories, experiencing a surge of emotions, noticing physical sensations, feeling a "second voice", or visualizing specific images. These responses are all valid forms of communication from your inner child, indicating that healing and acknowledgment are taking place.

Remember, your inner child has been carrying their pain alone for a long time. By reaching out with the intention to help, you're offering them a chance to be seen and heard, which can lead to profound healing and transformation.

Q: This seems like scary stuff to face. Am I going to be re-traumatized by this work?

It's natural to feel apprehensive about revisiting past experiences, especially those that were painful. However, engaging in inner child healing is a compassionate process designed to avoid re-traumatization. Here's why:

Empowered Support: Unlike the original experiences, where you may have felt isolated, this healing journey provides a supportive environment. With guidance, you can process emotions safely, transforming past pain into healing.

Fear vs. Reality: Often, the anticipation of confronting emotional pain is more daunting than the experience itself. Facing these feelings can lead to their quick dissipation, whereas avoiding them allows fear to persist indefinitely.

Inner Child's Pace: Your inner child will only share what feels safe. They may express general feelings like "I feel alone" or "Why is Mom so mean?" rather than delving into specific events. This ensures the process remains gentle and within your comfort zone.

By approaching these memories with compassion and support, you can heal past wounds without re-experiencing the trauma.
